Basing House, Barking
Client – Squibb Group
Project type – Demolition and Dismantling
Project length – 16 weeks
Issues we needed to think about before commencing works
- Structural assessment
- Limited working area
- Noise, dust and vibration control
- Multiple stakeholder management
The project brief was to demolish an 18-storey building inclusive of all services located on the roof. The method implemented was floor-by-floor demolition with demolition specific 360 machines and attachments, along with light weight skid steers, the machinery sited on each floor working down to the next floor down to ground level. The basement was also removed in its entirety and filled with site won materials that had been crushed on site.
All works were pre-planned in conjunction with structural engineers, scaffold partners, temporary works and the use of a crawler crane to enable safe and easy access of plant machinery.
Waste was routed through the former lift shafts to allow easy collection at ground level. All concrete and hard-core materials were processed, crushed and graded to various specifications and either left in suitably arranged stockpiles to be later used on site or sold on for use within other projects in the wider area.
Multiple stakeholders were involved throughout the whole project. This included local Councils, environmental health, resident’s groups and highways to name a few.
The project was completed safely and efficiently, on time with careful planning and consideration for the environment.
The site was left tidy and organised for the onward development by the site developer.
